This is the dawning of the Age of Aquaria
The Age of Aquaria recently descended upon The SM Store when it launched a campaign featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race
Season 10 grand winner, who brought her Big Drag Energy to Manila at the SM Megamall Mega Fashion Hall and The Block Atrium at SM City North EDSA.
During her two-day visit, guests were entertained by DJ Mike Lavet and host Hans Braga at SM Mega Fashion Hall, as well as Franco Zarate’s pre-show set, local winners of The Search for Big Drag Energy, and Joyce Pring’s wit at The Block Atrium, SM North EDSA.
But Aquaria was clearly the star of the show as she gave mallgoers not one, but three unforgettable numbers. It’s clear that she loves performing for an audience. Likewise the kween showed much love as she posed and chatted with her fanseveryone got a dose of extravaganza to last them for days.
“It’s a way I can feel empowered,” Aquaria shared with us.” It’s a way my audience can feel empowered by me. I know I enjoy what I’m doing and somehow there are people who enjoy watching me do it.”
At SM North Edsa, the audience was treated to more style facts when
‘I feel like wearing animal print is very empowering.’
Aquaria gamely played “Hot or Not” and answered questions from the crowd and the media. When asked, she named beige fishnets, waist cinchers, gloves, sunglasses, and a beautiful smile on one’s face as her top 5 drag essentials. Here’s a sampling of Aquaria’s fashion wit: Q 1: Shoulder pads A: HOT. I think it’s powerful. Whenever I’m in drag I love looking like a boss lady. And shoulder pads give that ‘80s vibe and really portray it very well.
Q2: Platform shoes
A: There’s hot platform flats and there’s not hot. It depends. Q3: Print on Print A: Hot. I love pattern clash that works. Q4: Color blocking A: Hot. It’s straightforward. Q5: Big Logos A: I do a lot of that in my own merchandise I suppose. I would say hot. Q6: Denim on Denim
A: Right now I’m not feeling it.
Q7: Animal prints all over
A: That is always gonna be it for me. I feel like wearing animal print in general is very empowering as well. I love rocking animal prints. Q8: Nude Lipstick A: Hot Q9: Matte Lipstick A: Oh, I’m really over it. When I’m performing I definitely do matte; any other time, toss some gloss on it. It’s so much more fun. Q10: Minimalism
A: More is always more. When given a choice, maximalism all the way down.
Before her set on day two, Aquaria popped by SM Makati for some shopping. She spotted an abanico from SM Accessories that was later used onstage. And as she went around The SM Store, she paused to pick up one of her favorite items from SM Shoes and Bags — nude boots worn during the shoot.
