The Gucci universe behind the scenes

-

Telling stories is a deeply human need, and Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele has a distinctive affinity for tales and characters, the path he has taken in defining his own vision of the Gucci universe.

The story of fashion, however, begins at the drawing table then moves to the workshops, fittings, trials and fault-finding sessions. It is a tale of manual and material skills, the result of specific know-how that today we tend to take for granted. Tales of fashion came to life with the advent of prêt-à-porter, and in its heyday, iconic fashion images spanned four decades, from the ’50s to the ’80s, and became part of Michele’s lexicon for the House of the Double G.

The story of how fashion is made behind the scenes is at the heart of the new Gucci fall-winter 2019-2020 advertising campaign, under the direction of Michele. In it, ready-to-wear once more makes the headlines as might have happened 30 years ago, when sensational headlines on covers were devoted to a must-have hemline, a seasonal color or fabric.

Michele’s vision shines through in Glen Luchford’s shots, which are bound up in the process of making and promoting clothes. It is a tale of objects, not characters, because the clothes’ true tales will be told by their wearers.

In the Philippines, Gucci is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc., and is located at Greenbelt 4 and Shangri-La Plaza East Wing. Visit www.ssilife.com.ph or follow @ssilifeph on Instagram for more information.
