PNP chief attends 39th ASEANAPOL meet
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde and other top police officials will hold discussions with their counterparts in South East Asia on enhancing cooperation to address transnational crimes in the region.
Albayalde will lead a 20-member delegation to the 39th Association of the Southeast Asian Nations Police (ASEANAPOL) Conference in Hanoi, Vietnam which started Monday and ends Sept. 20.
During the five-day meeting, the delegation will tackle problems such as illicit drug trafficking, terrorism, arms smuggling, trafficking in persons, maritime fraud, commercial crime, cybercrime and other transnational crimes prevailing in the region.
Albayalde and other police chiefs in the region will also discuss ways to improve the capabilities of their police forces through mutual assistance on criminal matters as well as exchange of personnel and training programs.
The police delegation will also hold bilateral meetings with the United Kingdom National Crime Agency and the Australian Federal Police.
Lt. Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa, the deputy chief for operations, was designated as officer-in-charge of the PNP while Albayalde is in Vietnam.
The conference attendees include officials from the Royal Brunei Police Force, Cambodian National Police, Indonesian National Police, Lao People’s Democratic Republic General Department of Police, Royal Malaysia Police, Myanmar Police Force, Singapore Police Force, Royal Thai Police, and the host agency, Socialist Republic of Vietnam Police.
Also attending as observers and dialogue partners are representatives from Fiji, Timor Leste, National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom, International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), International Committee of the Red Cross, United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, ASEAN Secretariat, International Criminal Police Organization, Australian Federal Police, National Police Agency of Japan, New Zealand Police, Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China, European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation , Russia, Turkey, and the National Police Agency of Republic of Korea.
