Czech Republic donates water treatment plant to Panay town

-

The Embassy of the Czech Republic and the local government of the Municipality of Sapian unveiled a mobile water treatment plant donated by the Czech Republic through a small-scale project that included its production and installation in the said municipality of Panay Island.

This complete automatic system produced in cooperation with the Czech companies namely Sweco Hydroproject, G-Servis, and Ekomonitor allows for the treatment of nonpotable groundwater through a unique technology from the Czech Republic; therefore, providing a source for free high-quality drinking water to the local people.

In the unveiling of the project held in the presence of Mayor Arthur John Biñas, Czech Embassy Trade Counsellor Benjamin Ziga, company representatives namely Milan Moravec from Sweco Hydroproject, Tomas Kaspar of Ekomonitor, Jakub Kubálek and Michal Cypris from G-Servis, together with the local residents of Sapian, had a sample of the water which can now be drank directly from the facility.

Mayor Biñas expressed his appreciation for the donation noting that the previous water source is far from the town and requires payment. Aside from this, the project also reduces ecological footprint in the area by eliminating the need for plastic water bottles specifically because Sapian is surrounded by sea bays that constitute an important livelihood.

The Czech Republic is known for creating conditions for sustainable management of its water wealth through affordable and advanced technologies that focus on treatment and conservation. The government’s policy aims to apply technologies in reducing the pollution of surface and groundwater, improving the quality and supply of drinking water, and providing technology models that reduce flood risks.

Through the project, the Czech embassy aspires to collaborate further with the Department of Agriculture in rolling out the project in other areas of the Philippines.
