Local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila are ready to provide assistance to those who will be affected by Typhoon Tisoy in the metropolis, where 579 barangays are susceptible to flooding.

Officials of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Philippine Coast Guard, Departments of Social Welfare and Development, Interior and Local Government and Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration convened yesterday to lay down preparations for the typhoon.

MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia said the agency is ready to provide rescue units when Tisoy hits Metro Manila starting today.

Garcia said the 64 pumping stations in Metro Manila are working to pump out floodwaters.

Local governments have started taking down billboards.

Classes have been suspended since yesterday as Metro Manila was placed under storm warning signal No. 2.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno activated the city’s emergency operation centers in anticipation of Tisoy.

Moreno also suspended classes from pre-school up to senior high school.

Rescue personnel are on standby and ready to evacuate the residents if the need arises, he said.
