AND THE GOLDEN GLOBE GOES TO… TIFFANY DIAMONDS!

- mARbbIe tAgAbUcbA

The 77th Golden Globe Awards heralded the beginning of awards season with an added twinkle and sparkle on Hollywood’s biggest stars. Gowns and suits took a backseat to some stunning jewelry. The trend? Diamonds in platinum or white gold. And there was a lot of Tiffany & Co.

I love the unexpected way X-Files star Gillian Anderson wore her diamond necklace — all the way down to her back, flaunted by a caped backless dress, with Tiffany Victoria diamond drop earrings to match — in a rare public appearance as

The Crown is nominated for Best Drama Series. (Anderson will join Season 4 as UK’s former prime minister, Margaret Thatcher.)

Some A-listers punctuated the icy shine with a touch of color. Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama nominee Charlize Theron went for an emerald-cut emerald of over 10 carats, the centerpiece on her Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Collection necklace of over 57 total carats of baguette sapphires and diamonds designed to evoke the intricate yet fluid movement of a grosgrain ribbon and echoing the delicate drapery of her emerald green Dior haute couture gown.

Up-and-coming actress Ana de Armas, nominated for her performance in Knives

Out, looked every bit a star on the rise with a Tiffany necklace of 19 pear-shaped sapphires of over 101 total carats and princess-cut diamonds of over six total carats, sparkling blue like her sequined Ralph & Russo ball gown. Pear-shaped diamond earrings of over 24 total carats, paired with Tiffany diamond stud earrings and an over 18-carat tanzanite ring, completed the look.

Men can wear serious jewelry and they always have. It was definitely more popular to accessorize with baubles in past history, but now it’s back with a flash. Presenter Ansel Elgort made a statement for gender fluidity in style expression with his Tiffany Enchant butterfly brooch in platinum with sapphires on the lapel of his Tom Ford velvet suit. Drawing the eye to his icy-blue polished nails was a ring with an over nine-carat sapphire and a Tiffany 1837 Makers watch. It definitely reflected the twinkle in his eyes: accentuated by the dab of silver eye shadow on the inner corners.

Pose nominee Billy Porter isn't about to be outdone. He went as the White Swan at the Globes with an all-white Alex Vinash ensemble with a feather train and some serious diamonds that did not disappoint: a Tiffany diamond pendant featuring a significant pear-shaped diamond of over 11 carats and round brilliant diamonds of over 31 total carats, a Tiffany dragon fly brooch and a selection of Tiffany T rings.

I am always drawn to red carpet choices that lead us to moments in jewelry history. Twentieth century artist Jean Schlumberger was the favorite and is alive more than ever. Nominated for

The Morning Show and as producer of Best Television Series – Drama nominee Big Little Lies, Reese Witherspoon served up timelessness in Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger Ribbon Fan Earrings with her white Roland Mouret gown with an oversize bow as its bodice. This same whimsy was complemented by something from the current collection by chief artistic director Reed Krakoff: a bracelet inspired by the waning pattern of the lunar cycle. Tiffany artisans deconstructed the heart and star motifs and recreated them with baguette and round brilliant diamonds.

Killing Eve nominee Jodie Comer also showed up in Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger Ribbons earrings that feature over 130 round brilliant diamonds and a Schlumberger Stars ring with a green tourmaline of over 10 carats.

Michelle Williams, the winner for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Fosse/Verdon, also went with Schlumberger to go with her Grecian tangerine Louis Vuitton dress. Grasping her Globe as she made a speech on women’s rights, it was a challenge to not be distracted by her Leaf Wrap ring in 18k yellow gold and platinum with a peridot of over six carats (an unusual choice!) and diamonds and Inverted Petals ring in 18k yellow gold and platinum with a rubellite of over seven carats and diamonds, one on each hand.

Awards season is off to a good sartorial start and the style stakes are high. I can’t wait for the bling at the Oscars!
