Timeless minimalism when Phoenix Home meets AllHome

This quarter, Exclusive Phoenix Home Collection by Nix Alañon makes the Evia Lifestyle Center much chicer than ever at the north wing.

Right up the escalator, across the Appliances section, furniture lovers indulge at the welcoming beauty of living room and bedroom vignettes — the latest project of interior designer and furniture master Nix Alañon.

Taking a contemporary vibe is the bedroom with taupe tufted headboard and bedroom bench, matched with chocolate and seafoam green throws, and white sheets and pillows. On the immediate side is an ash gray three-seater sofa with gray and pink throws that soften the already restful atmosphere. Meanwhile, on the adjacent living area, a dark gray two-seater sofa creates an elegant contrast. The whole room is filled with side tables in different sizes, consoles and mini storage cabinets, which stand equal to the larger furniture pieces, thanks to the use of Philippine mahogany wood and brass.

Alañon takes pride at using locally sourced materials to create world-class pieces that withstand time and trends.

“I would describe this collection as contemporary but, at the same time, timeless. I want it to be to be relevant now in your home and I also want you to be able to enjoy it many years down the line,” says the 36-year-old designer.

Using relevant designs and colors, he wishes customers to be able to dress it up and “mix and match the current pieces with the ones that you already have at home.” While Phoenix Home also accepts customization requests, the pieces on display are already applicable to either condominiums or bigger dwellings.

“It’s more of minimalist,” he shares. “Again, I want my furniture to be sort of a blank canvas because I buy a lot of pieces for my clients, and furniture does not need to be complicated. If it is, then it’s hard to match with; it’s hard to accessorize. It’s supposed to stand out but it’s also not meant to scream.” Even among the lavish spenders, Alañon says it is still difficult to sell white furniture pieces. “A lot of people think of practicality, especially if they have kids or pets. So I wanted fabrics that are easy to maintain. These are the kinds that don’t wring out or scratch easily. My lightest color would be gray. So if it gets dirty, it’s not easily seen.” Among the pieces in the exclusive collection, his favorite are the tables, especially the smaller ones. “You can put it in any room in your house. It’s very versatile,” he beams.

“When I was young, I would make my own dinner setup for my family. I would rearrange the house. I would get accessories just to spruce up our own living room and buy it from my own money. I liked to do that, and that’s how I discovered that I like doing what I’m doing now,” shares the young designer. Alañon owns a design studio called FTA Designs, which has been around since 2006. Phoenix Home, on the other hand, is his furniture company and lifestyle brand that started in 2011.

“Together, it works hand in hand because we meet a lot of clients,” he says. “In the beginning, I would look for furniture for them. And I opted to come out with my own line and have my store.”

After having a physical store for nine years, he decided to take everything online since he already had a good library of his past works.

“I noticed that a lot of people just look at the catalogs anyway and have it done. I had a bigger showroom last year, but then again, people would just send us an email or a DM and asked for a catalog of the furniture. I guess having an online store or a brickand-mortar store has its own advantages and also has its own kind of like unique selling,” he furthers.

By partnering with AllHome, the Nix Collection is opening up to greater possibilities. Alañon knows this all too well as he, himself, has been an avid shopper of AllHome.

“I’m a client of AllHome. I would buy a lot of accessories from here because they have a very good selection. I also buy for my personal use; for my own house. I really like what they have. So it’s very good to be working with them,” says Alañon, who describes AllHome as a one-stop shop.

“I come here with a whole list of shopping needs and sourcing needs. Then I come out having all of it and more. Even the ones that aren’t on the list, I just pick it up because I like it. It’s so nice here.”
