Almost 200,000 beneficiaries in Quezon City have received the P8,000 emergency cash aid under the national government’s social amelioration program (SAP).

Data showed that the city government released payouts to 196,378 out of 377,854 target households as of Wednesday.

In Metro Manila, Quezon City ranked second in the most number of payouts released, next to Caloocan with 197,523.

At 52.01 percent, the city ranked ninth in terms of percentage of payouts released versus the target set by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Mayor Joy Belmonte has approved a supplemental budget to provide P4,000 to beneficiaries excluded from SAP.

Belmonte said there are at least 723,822 families in the city qualified to receive cash assistance.

The deadline for the release of the cash subsidy in Metro Manila was extended to May 10.

Vicente Gregorio Tomas, director of the DSWD National Capital Region, said the cash distribution by local governments in the metropolis improved this week.

He said the governments of Caloocan, Manila and Quezon City have the biggest number of eligible beneficiaries.

Families return SAP

In Navotas, at least P6.5 million worth of SAP assistance was returned by 816 families.

“Because of your goodwill, other low-income families would get the chance to receive the emergency subsidy,” Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

In Malabon, Mayor Antolin Oreta III thanked 13 city residents who returned P104,000 in cash aid.

Those who returned the SAP assistance were residents of Barangays Bayan-Bayanan, Longos, Potrero, Hulong Duhat, Catmon, Concepcion, Acacia, Santulan and Baritan.
