- By EMMANUEL TUPAS

The suspect in the murder of a 16-year-old girl, whose face was peeled off by the killer, was found dead in an apparent suicide at the LapuLapu City Jail on Sunday.

Renato Llenes, 44, was found hanging by a fellow inmate in the toilet of the jail’s infirmary at around 6:10 a.m.

Jail guards rushed Llenes to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Initial reports from the Central Visayas police said Llenes used a shirt to kill himself.

Llenes was tagged in the murder of Christine Lee Silawan, who was found in a vacant lot in Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City on March 11, 2019.

Silawan’s case hogged the headlines at the time due to the brutality of her murder.

Residents expressed dismay over the suspect’s death, saying it did not gave justice to the victim and her family.
