4 ways the 2020 Mazda3 edition100 elevates design perfection

- By MANNY N. DE LOS REYES How do you improve on perfection?

Very carefully. And very careful Mazda Philippines was when they applied new design elements to their awardwinning Mazda3.

This is no mere aesthetic “refinement,” though. It’s nothing less than a celebration of the car winning the 2020 World Car Design of the Year award. It’s an accolade few mass market cars have won, but one which Mazda has won twice.

The new trim package also celebrates the Hiroshima-based marque’s 100th anniversary this year, which is why the limitededition model, available only in Sportback guise, is called the Mazda3 edition100. To enhance both its design and desirability, the Mazda3 edition100 features colorway and detail enhancements that accentuate the dynamic form of the Mazda3 Sportback Premium, giving it an even more preeminent presence on the road.

The 2020 Mazda3 is Mazda’s first new-generation model to realize its more mature Evolved KODO: Soul of Motion design philosophy. It has established a whole new standard for beauty and craftsmanship in its class. And now, Mazda has employed four key design and detail changes to make the award-winning Mazda3 even more special:

For the Mazda3 edition100, original equipment Mazdaspeed body kits have been color-matched with the three key body colors of the Mazda3 Sportback Premium to make the car even more distinctive and desirable: Soul Red body kits for the Snowflake White Pearl and Jet Black Mazda3 exterior; and Gloss Black body kits for the Soul Red Crystal exterior.

Combined with this new exterior color combination are distinct premium red leather seats and interior trims, further enhancing the appeal of this latest package for the Mazda3.

The Mazda3 edition100 is further differentiated by its High-Gloss Midnight Black 18-inch wheels and standout red brake calipers, both a nod to the Mazda3’s sporty and dynamic DNA.

Finally, a relocated front license plate holder opens the striking front grille of the car, revealing more of the compelling visage and dynamic beauty that has made the Mazda3 the 2020 World Car Design of the Year Award winner.

“For a hundred years now, Mazda has been at the forefront of designing and creating vehicles that arouse the emotions of its owner,” says Steven Tan, president, and CEO of Mazda Philippines. “We introduce the Mazda3 edition100 as the first model to celebrate the brand’s unrelenting passion for seamlessly combining stimulating design with groundbreaking engineering. As this year’s World Car Design of the Year winner, the Mazda3 edition100 becomes an even more compelling choice for those who appreciate the exclusivity of distinction.”

The World Car Design of the Year Award is meant to highlight new vehicles with innovation and style that push established boundaries. The all-new Mazda3 combines an evolution in design and craftsmanship with proven performance and enhanced comfort while raising the bar of safety with its advanced i-Activsense suite of active and passive safety systems.

Equipped with Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Cruising Traffic Support, Smart Brake Support for forward and reverse, as well as Front and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, Adaptive LED Front-Lighting System, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist and Driver Attention Alert and Driver Monitoring systems, the 2020 Mazda3 has earned for itself the Top Safety Pick+ status, the highest safety award from America’s Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an independent motor vehicle safety testing organization. This is also the tenth straight year, the Mazda3 has been accorded the Top Safety Pick recognition by the IIHS.

The all-new Mazda3 was also awarded the maximum fivestar rating by the Euro New Car Assessment Program (EURO NCAP) in 2019 when it received the highest ever score of 98 percent for Adult Occupant protection. It likewise performed impressively in the other three Euro NCAP test categories Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road User (pedestrian safety) and Safety Assist.

All these recognitions underscore the Mazda3’s superior overall design and Mazda’s century-long passion and devotion to innovation in manufacturing.

The complete Mazda3 edition100 Package adds P100,000 to the P1,510,000 SRP of the 2.0-liter Mazda3 Sportback Premium.
