Select streets in five barangays in Malabon were placed on a 15-day lockdown amid the rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The Malabon Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases approved the localized community quarantine on the following areas: P. Concepcion and Tumariz streets in Barangay Tugatog; University Avenue Extension and Guava street in Barangay Potrero; 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th streets and C4 Road in Barangay Tañong; Gozon Letre and Phase 1 in Barangay Tonsuya, and Block 14 A and Block 14 C in Barangay Longos.

The lockdown will start today and will end on July 30.

The local government will give relief goods to affected residents, city public information officer chief Bong Padua said.

As of Tuesday, there were 936 COVID-19 cases in Malabon with 76 deaths.

In Caloocan, Barangay 38 was placed on total lockdown on Tuesday until July 20 after 42 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the area.

Barangay 93, which has 28 COVID-19 infections, was also put on lockdown until July 18.

Prisons virus-free

No new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in seven penal colonies under the Bureau of Corrections since July 1, the BuCor announced yesterday.

“For two weeks, the BuCor has not logged any case of COVID-19 infection in all its prisons,” Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete said.

The BuCor has recorded 343 cases of COVID-19 at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa and Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong with 18 deaths and 323 recoveries.

A BuCor employee and an inmate are still undergoing quarantine, Perete said.

He said visitation privileges and food delivery for inmates remain suspended.

“Inmates can communicate with their families through electronic dalaw program,” he said.
