Seven men – six Chinese and a Filipino – were arrested by the Philippine National Police’s Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) on Monday night for allegedly kidnapping a Chinese man.

AKG chief Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo yesterday said they rescued Le Chen from QROI 199’s corporate office along Roxas Boulevard in Parañaque City at around 11 p.m.

AKG operatives arrested Chen’s alleged kidnappers, identified as Gao Tong Tong, Tian Yu, Liang Kai, Cheng Yong Qing,

Zhang Bo Xu, Wang Xua – all Chinese – and Edgar Ortiz.

Chen’s partner, Mariel Mirabel, told police the suspects kidnapped him and were asking P84,000 as ransom.

Chen applied for work in a Philippine offshore gaming operator last July 12 and a Chinese man fetched him for interview on July 16.

On the same day, Mirabel received a message from the victim that “he was forced to work in an online gambling firm and the contract was spurious and illegal,” the AKG reported.

If she failed to come up with the ransom, “the victim will be sold to another company,” the AKG added.

The AKG said it also rescued another Chinese, Den Lingyi, in Pasay City on the same day but no suspects were arrested.
