LPA to dump rains in Luzon, Visayas

- – Helen Flores

A low-pressure area spotted off Virac, Catanduanes will dump rains over parts of Luzon and the Visayas in the next 24 hours.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the weather disturbance was spotted 65 kilometers eastnortheast of Virac as of 3 p.m. yesterday.

The low-pressure area will bring scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains over Bicol, Western Visayas and Quezon.

Scattered light to heavy rains will be experienced over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and the Visayas and Zamboanga peninsula.

“Flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall, especially in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards,” PAGASA said.

Two to four cyclones were predicted to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in July.

Tropical Depression Carina entered the country earlier this month.
