Quakes jolt Surigao Norte, Eastern Samar

Earthquake­s hit Surigao del Norte and Samar yesterday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanolog­y and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 5 quake occurred at around 3:21 a.m.

The epicenter of the temblor was located 21 kilometers northeast of Dapa town.

The quake was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in General Luna, Burgos and Socorro, also in Surigao del Norte, and San Jose on Dinagat Islands.

It was felt at Intensity 3 in Surigao City and Dapa and Intensity 2 in Carrascal and Tubod in Surigao del Sur and Loreto, Dinagat Islands.

Phivolcs warned the public of aftershock­s.

A magnitude 4.1 quake struck 28 kms northeast of General Luna town at about 5:07 a.m.

It was felt at Intensity 3 in Burgos town and Intensity 2 in General Luna and Socorro in Surigao del Norte and San Jose, Dinagat Islands.

A magnitude 4.8 quake hit 25 kms northeast of Hernani, Eastern Samar at around 2:49 p.m.

The temblor was felt at Intensity 3 in Llorente town and Intensity 2 in La Paz, Julita, Dagami, Tanauan and Dulag in Leyte. –
