LPA to bring rains over Visayas, Southern Tagalog
A low-pressure area has entered the Philippine area of responsibility and is expected to bring rains over most parts of Southern Tagalog and the Visayas in the next two to three days.
The low-pressure area was spotted 475 kilometers east of Legazpi City, Albay as of 3 p.m. yesterday.
It was not expected to develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
PAGASA senior weather forecaster Chris Perez warned against possible flooding including flashfloods and rain- induced landslides during heavy rainfall or prolonged periods of rainfall.
Meanwhile, the tail- end of a frontal system and the low-pressure area will bring moderate to at times heavy rains over the Bicol region and Eastern Visayas, and light to moderate to at times heavy rains over the southern portions of Marinduque, Quezon, Romblon and the rest of the Visayas.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains due to thunderstorms.
UN extends call for help
The United Nations has extended its call for help for victims of Ulysses in Northern Luzon.
Three weeks after launching its response to help communities hit by Super Typhoon Rolly, the UN and its humanitarian partners released a revised humanitarian needs and priorities plan, extending its support in areas severely affected by Ulysses.
The revised plan will bring together collective humanitarian activities from November 2020 to April 2021, with a new total funding request of $52.6 million or P2.5 billion.
The call for resources will directly assist 278,100 affected people in terms of food, access to clean WASH or water-sanitation-hygiene facilities, emergency shelter and livelihood as well as health and early recovery.
Following a review of the overall needs, 18,100 most vulnerable people affected by Ulysses in Cagayan were added to the original target for help of 260,000 in Albay and Catanduanes.
