Parañaque logs 3 cases of south african variant

-

Three cases of the South African variant of COVID-19 have been detected in Parañaque City.

The local government traced these cases in Barangays Baclaran, Sun Valley and Don Bosco, according to city administrator Fernando Soriano.

Julius Anthony Zaide, chairman of Barangay Baclaran, urged the residents to observe health and safety protocols.

Zaide said checkpoints would be set up along Dimasalang, Lapu-lapu, Unida, Lt. Garcia and Mactan streets to control the entry and exit of people.

He said three markets in Barangay Baclaran would be cordoned off due to rising cases of COVID-19.

Muntinlupa COVID cases up

Muntinlupa has recorded a spike in the number of residents contracting COVID-19 infections.

As of Sunday, there were 129 active cases of COVID-19 in the city, up from 78 cases on Feb. 7.

This means the number of active COVID-19 cases in Muntinlupa increased by 65 percent in a month.

City health officer Teresa Tuliao said COVID-19 patients considered as active cases were residents working outside the city, who could have contracted the virus while at work or during travel.

“They could have transmitted the virus to their families, causing a rise in the number of active cases in the city,” Tuliao said.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi reminded the residents to strictly follow health and safety measures to avoid catching COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the Makati Medical Center (MMC) has received 8,700 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.

MMC president Pilar Nenuca Almira and medical director Saturnino Javier were the first to be inoculated with the vaccine.
