Binay shuts down 2 bars for quarantine breach

-

Makati Mayor Abby Binay has ordered the closure and revocation of business permits of two bars found operating past curfew hours and violating COVID-19 health protocols.

At least 51 people, including foreigners, were apprehended when authorities raided the Movida Fashion Food and Club and Royal Club in Barangay Poblacion on Friday night.

Operatives of the Makati police and the city’s Public Safety Department conducted the raid to ensure the compliance of business establishments with quarantine guidelines.

Binay warned commercial establishments and customers violating city ordinances and safety protocols against COVID-19.

“We are alarmed by the blatant disregard of the law by these establishments and their clients. Let me remind everyone that we are still in a pandemic. With the presence of new COVID variants, we need to remain vigilant and observe safety protocols at all times,” she said.

“I will not hesitate to shut down establishments violating health protocols. Safety comes first. People’s lives are at stake here,” Binay added.

The violators were released after being issued ordinance violation tickets and fined P1,000 each.

Binay said Ordinance No. 2020165, which took effect on Aug. 31, 2020 provides guidelines for the operation of restaurants and fastfood businesses in the city, with specific provisions for each level of community quarantine.

Bars will remain closed for the duration of the pandemic.
