Gio Marlo to watch out for this year

Gio Marlo (photo) is one of the reasons why the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) music scene is getting more exciting. Only 21, he offers a brand of accessible pop built from R&B grooves and chilled soulfulness.

Inspired by a recent breakup, his debut single Akala talks about how the person you were hoping to end up with turns out to be the one who will hurt you instead.

Gio is a music production major in one of the universities in the country. His passion for music started when he was in Grade 11 and has since been writing his own compositions nonstop. One of his musical influences is William Singe and that he gets inspiration from William’s covers on YouTube.

His song covers on TikTok exhibit the versatility of his voice. He can soothe his audience with his rendition of OPM ballads from Eraserheads, Noel Cabangon, The Juans, Ben & Ben, Arthur Nery and Silent Sanctuary to international hits by Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, LANY and Justin Bieber.
