GAB wraps up VisMin probe

- By JOHN BRYAN ULANDAY

The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) will convene on Monday to discuss the results of its probe on the controversial game that put a dent on the integrity of the Chooksto-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Visayas leg and led to the suspension of the Mindanao leg scheduled this month.

The meeting among officials of the country’s regulatory body for professional sports is in line with the completion of the Visayas leg, which is expected to crown its champion this week.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we don’t want to get ahead of the results. We don’t want another incident to happen and we are making sure that all elements are in order,” GAB chairman Baham Mitra told The STAR.

Teams vying in the Mindanao leg are also under review or scrutiny following last month’s controversial game between LapuLapu and Siquijor, leading to allegations of game fixing in the young league.

Meanwhile, Lapu-Lapu staved off another elimination late Tuesday night after dragging twice-to-beat Mandaue into a sudden death Game 2 with a spirited 67-52 win.

Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue will dispute the right to face unbeaten Talisay in the best-ofthree title series of the Visayas leg.
