- By OLMIN LEYBA

Yuka Saso’s milestone US Women’s Open triumph only intensified her hunger to achieve golfing excellence.

Saso, who tied the record as the youngest US Open queen and became the first Philippine bet to win a golf major, is determined to continue on this path in her succeeding events in the world’s premier circuit.

“This (US Women’s Open feat) is not the end of my journey. It’s a happy day, a great day; but tomorrow, maybe it’s another day,” the ICTSIbacked sensation said after her great feat.

“We’re going to move on, focus on my next tournament. I still have to keep on working,” stressed Saso, who has gained a five-year LPGA membership exemption for ruling the US Open.

A few weeks from her greatest win so far, the FilJapanese parbuster competes in the next major, the $4.5 million KPMG Women’s PGA Championship June 24-27 at Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia.

She’s set to return to the Japan LPGA for two tournaments after this, the GMO Internet Ladies Samantha Thavasa Global Cup slated July 16-18 at Eagle Point FC in Ibaraki, and the Daito Kentaki/ Good Room Net Ladies July 22-25 at Takino CC in Hokkaido.

A much-anticipated stint in the Tokyo Olympics follows from Aug. 4-7 at Kasumigaseki CC in Saitama.

Filipino sports officials have high expectations for World No. 9 Saso in the hunt for the elusive gold. But Saso doesn’t want to get carried away. “It doesn’t mean that I won this (US Open), I can win in the Olympics. I still have to work on it,” she said.

“There’s a lot of tournaments coming up so I just have to get back to work and let’s see what’s going to happen in the Olympics,” she added.
