Isko shrugs off face-off with Sara
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday ignored the possibility of facing off with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in next year’s presidential race.
President Duterte’s daughter withdrew her mayoral bid in Davao City on Tuesday, triggering speculations that she would run for president.
Moreno, his running mate and senatorial slate visited Bataan yesterday to woo voters with his campaign promise of connecting the province through a bridge between Cavite and Batangas if he wins as president.
In an interview, Moreno touted that he and Dr. Willie Ong joined the race without resorting to substitution tactics.
“I do not care about the kind of politics that they do,” Moreno said in Filipino, when asked about the possibility of running against the Davao mayor.
Sara’s withdrawal from her reelection bid stoked speculations that she would vie for the presidency by replacing the PDP-Laban bet Sen. Ronald dela Rosa or be the running mate of former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Moreno said he trusted the voting public’s discernment that the political tactic of substitution after the filing of candidacy was a mockery of the electoral system.
“We decided early to run and submit our application to serve… We want to talk with and hear from as many people as possible and reach every inch, meter and kilometer of our geography,” Moreno said.
“The people know that they are just being taken for a ride. Let us not underestimate them,” he added of the substitution ploy.
During his visit yesterday, Moreno also talked with the fisherfolk community in Balanga City and visited Barangay Landing in Pilar where he used to work at a farm when he was a teenager.
