Expect LRT-2 trip delays due to signal upgrade

- – Marc Jayson Cayabyab

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) yesterday said it would upgrade the signaling system of the LRT-2.

The management warned the public that this might result in delays in the arrivals and departures of trains starting tomorrow until the end of the month.

The upgrade involves the replacement of communication link and improvement of interlocking module of the signaling system, which is part of the LRTA’s efforts to ensure smooth and safe operations, the rail management said. “As such, expect slight delays in the arrival and departure of trains at the LRT-2 stations,” the LRTA said as it appealed for public understanding.

Meanwhile, the MRT-3 was able to increase its passenger capacity from 300,000 to 600,000 daily.

The rail line’s operating speed increased from 30 kilometers per hour to 60 kph. The headway between trains also improved from nine minutes to 3.5 minutes, the management said.

At least 23 MRT-3 trains were deployed along the rail line from the previous 15 coaches.
