Go extends help to Davao fire victims

Sen. Bong Go has sent financial and relief assistance to families displaced in a fire in Davao City on Friday.

Go vowed to continue pushing for more measures that would improve the country’s fire-fighting capability.

His team distributed meals, food packs, vitamins and face masks to 44 fire victims who are sheltered at the Bucana Barangay Hall.

Select beneficiaries received new pairs of shoes or bicycles for their commuting needs.

Those with children studying under the blended learning set-up were given computer tablets.

Go is the principal author and co-sponsor of Republic Act 11589, which seeks to implement the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Modernization Program.

The program includes acquisition of new fire equipment, expansion of the BFP’s human resources and provision of specialized training for firefighters.

Signed by President Duterte last year, the law mandates the conduct of monthly fire prevention and information campaign in all local government units, particularly in informal settlements and economically depressed areas.

As chair of the Senate committee on health, Go offered additional help to those in need of medical attention.

He advised them to avail themselves of the services offered at the Malasakit Center located at the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

There are currently 149 Malasakit Centers nationwide where poor and indigent patients could avail themselves of medical assistance given by the government.

Go is the principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019.

He urged eligible Davaoeños to get vaccinated and boosters to better protect themselves from COVID.

He thanked local officials who extended assistance to the fire victims.
