New anthems for the love season

-

Here are some of the new music releases offering a lovefest to keep you in the spirit of the Valentine’s month.

JoAnne Lorenzana’s Everyday Valentine

JoAnne Lorenzana is trying to do the unthinkable — make every day Valentine’s Day. It’s not just because she was born on the day of hearts. The US-based singer-songwriter is offering her latest song, My Everyday Valentine, for the Save the Children charity organization.

A significant percentage of every download or $0.99 (roughly P50) the single earns will go to the said organization. Save the Children gives every child a healthy start by giving him the chance to learn and by shielding him from personal or natural disasters like Typhoon Odette.

When it reaches a total of 2,000 downloads collectively on iTunes, Apple Music and Amazon, the portion of sales allotted for the charity will be matched by JoAnne’s handling company, NeoMonde Productions. The amount will be given to Save the Children.

It is Joanne the Heart Diva’s way of giving back and also her means of making every day Valentine’s day. She penned the lyrics of My Everyday Valentine, while the melody was composed by prolific songwriter Jimmy Borja (of Sana Ngayong Pasko, Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin and If the Feeling is Gone fame), with arrangement by Jimmy Antiporda.

Though it officially premiered online on Valentine’s Day, the composition is meant to be an everyday love song. It says that while expressing our love feels good on Valentine’s or any other season, it is even better to express it every single day.

My Everyday Valentine is downloadable on iTunes (https://apple. co/3uJjgIe), Apple Music (https:// apple.co/3GI7kJ8) and Amazon Music (https://amzn.to/3JkW2fv).

Nicole Laurel, Basically Saturday Night’s The One

The One is the latest song of Nicole Laurel Asensio, co-written with upcoming band Basically Saturday Night, as a result of their first-time collaboration.

The One brings the old soul flavor into present times. It combines Basically Saturday Night’s signature rhythm, silken guitar licks and their lead singer Migie Garcia’s deep smoky vocals, with Nicole’s sultry yet powerful tone and gift for blending rock and jazz genres, as well as embellishments from her horn section.

The original composition is a simple expression between two people who have shed their uncertainties and given themselves entirely to their one true love. The message of the song intends for people to continue seeking, cherishing and living for their own interpretation of “The One.”

“I first heard Basically Saturday Night’s music because our head A&R at Warner Music, Kelley Mangahas, and I were on a video call and he told me, ‘Nicole, there’s a band that I really think you might have a good time writing with, let’s see if you guys can collaborate,’” Nicole shared.

“As soon as we started freejamming, the rhythms, melodies and impromptu lyrics were spouting out from every corner of the lab. I knew this first time was something special. It just felt natural. Even if I am now a solo artist, I understand the band culture very well. I still like to write like a band player, collaboratively.”

Band guitarist Junoy Manalo also spoke about the actual music-making process. “During a break in our first session, Nicole suggested that we go for a slow and groovy vibe. I started out on a chord melody with Jairus (keyboard), Kurt (bass) and Faisal (drums) jumped in. Nicole started improvising some lyrics and melodies. Migie came back into the session and within minutes, most of the song had already been ironed out.”

The band further said that the collaboration is the first of many down the line. The music video, which was megged by award-winning director Gorio Vicuna, will be released by the end of this month. The One is now available on all digital platforms.
