When news broke that the LTFRB wanted to clamp down on Grab and Uber, there was public outrage. Heated conversations online even began to revolve around social status and the massive shortcomings of our beloved country. Although the issue still hasn’t been completely resolved, commuters who rely heavily in TNVS (like us in the Top Gear PH staff) can rest easy. We can still book a ride on our smartphones, at least for the time being. Everyone still has the right to choose.
But there’s even more good that came out from this debacle. It further reinforced the need for a cheap, reliable, and safe public transport system. Imagine a subway/MRT that we can be proud of as a nation. Personal mobility won’t ever be an issue again, and us city dwelling car enthusiasts can save our driving for the weekends.
Indeed change has come. The people have spoken in support of TNVS, and miraculously the government listened. Now when are we getting that awesome subway?
In the Top Gear PH office, big changes have happened, too.
The prolific Niky Tamayo is now Contributing Editor, further cementing his reputation as our number-one motormouth.
Elaine Lara has been promoted from Staff Writer to Assistant Managing Editor—a role that suits her perfectly.
On top of his responsibilities as Test Drive Editor, Jason Dela Cruz has taken my place as second-in-command of the magazine, with his promotion to Associate Editor.
The ever-witty Dinzo Tabamo has been promoted from Online Associate Editor to Online Executive Editor—a huge responsibility that he relishes.
And lastly, I am now Top Gear PH’s Brand Editor-In-Chief.
We wouldn’t be here if not for you guys, and we look forward to this new and exciting chapter together. Stay driven!
