Bacolod City man stabs nephew to death

-

A man believed to be under the influence of illegal drugs stabbed his six-year-old nephew to death over the weekend inside their home at Purok Sigay in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City.

Police identified the fatality as Nonoy Antonio.

In an interview with Watchmen Daily Journal, Romel Salgado, the victim’s relative, said, on the night prior to the incident, the victim and suspect, identified as Arnel Antonio, had dinner and watched a movie.

The victim and suspect later returned home after the younger Antonio

reportedly wanted to go to bed.

Around 12:30 a.m., Salgado reported hearing shouting from the suspect’s home.

He immediately responded and, upon arrival, found the bloodied victim on the bed, while the suspect was no longer on the premises.

Salgado called on neighbors for assistance.

The minor was rushed to a hospital in the city, but was declared dead on arrival after sustaining 22 stab wounds across his body.

Meanwhile, the neighbors, along with several barangay tanods, hunted down the suspect. He was later found hiding at his cousin’s house, located at the barangay’s Purok Magsungay, and was taken into custody by Police Station 8 (PS8).

The family later disclosed the assailant was possibly under the influence of illegal drugs during the incident. The suspect eventually admitted to the crime, claiming he heard “voices” as they were sleeping.

Cops recovered the buckle knife allegedly used in the attack.

The victim’s father, Rene, meanwhile, rushed back to Bacolod City from Cebu after hearing what happened.

The father immediately visited PS8 to confront the suspect, whom he punched. Authorities eventually managed to hold back victim’s parent, while the suspect was returned to his jail cell.

The father confirmed he would pursue criminal charges against the suspect.

In connection to the incident, PS8 anti-drug operatives conducted a buy-bust operation in the same area, resulting in the arrest of 47-year-old Carlito Deriada.

PS8 commander, Police Chief Inspector Ruel Culanag, said, based on their investigation, Deriada allegedly sold illegal drugs to the suspect.

Cops recovered a total six big sachets of suspected shabu, valued around P85,000; P700 in suspected drug proceeds; a pair of scissors; and drug paraphernalia.

Deriada is now detained at PS8 on drug-related charges./DGB,
