Monday quakes leave Panay schools damaged
The three earthquakes that struck the Western Visayas last Monday damaged a number of schools across Panay.
The schools reporting damage, which include the appearance of cracks, were Igcocolo Elementary School, Cabasi-Sta. Rosa Elementary School, Nanga Elementary School, Guimbal Central Elementary School, and Guimbal National High School.
The Municipal Engineer’s Office in Guimbal, Iloilo has since carried out inspections on damaged buildings.
Town officials also suspended classes following the quakes.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology initially recorded a 4.7-magnitude tremor epicentered at San Jose de Buenavista, Antique around 7:49 a.m. last Monday. This was followed by a second tremor a few minutes later measuring 4.0 in magnitude at third Sibunag, quake measuring Guimaras. 4.8 A few in magnitude hours later followed and was a centered in Guimbal.
The tremors were felt as far away as Bacolod City and Cebu City, with mass evacuations taking place across Iloilo. reported. There were no casualties
