Mon­day quakes leave Panay schools dam­aged

The three earthquakes that struck the West­ern Visayas last Mon­day dam­aged a num­ber of schools across Panay.

The schools re­port­ing dam­age, which in­clude the ap­pear­ance of cracks, were Ig­co­colo El­e­men­tary School, Cabasi-Sta. Rosa El­e­men­tary School, Nanga El­e­men­tary School, Guim­bal Cen­tral El­e­men­tary School, and Guim­bal Na­tional High School.

The Mu­nic­i­pal En­gi­neer’s Of­fice in Guim­bal, Iloilo has since car­ried out in­spec­tions on dam­aged build­ings.

Town of­fi­cials also sus­pended classes fol­low­ing the quakes.

The Philip­pine In­sti­tute of Vol­canol­ogy and Seis­mol­ogy ini­tially recorded a 4.7-mag­ni­tude tremor epi­cen­tered at San Jose de Bue­nav­ista, An­tique around 7:49 a.m. last Mon­day. This was fol­lowed by a sec­ond tremor a few min­utes later mea­sur­ing 4.0 in mag­ni­tude at third Si­bunag, quake mea­sur­ing Guimaras. 4.8 A few in mag­ni­tude hours later fol­lowed and was a cen­tered in Guim­bal.

The tremors were felt as far away as Ba­colod City and Cebu City, with mass evac­u­a­tions tak­ing place across Iloilo. re­ported. There were no ca­su­al­ties
