Early morn­ing quake strikes Iloilo

An early morn­ing earth­quake struck just east of Leon, Iloilo yes­ter­day.

Mea­sur­ing 2.2 in mag­ni­tude, the tremor struck around 12:33 a.m., with a Philip­pine In­sti­tute of Vol­canol­ogy and Seis­mol­ogy bul­letin in­di­cat­ing no dam­age was recorded due to the in­ci­dent, nor were there any an­tic­i­pated af­ter­shocks.

Earthquakes rang­ing be­tween 1.0 and 3.0 in mag­ni­tude are of­ten

clas­si­fied as a Level 1 on the Mer­calli in­ten­sity scale, where very few even feel the tremor.

Last Mon­day, three earthquakes struck the Western Visayas, with a 4.7-mag­ni­tude quake strik­ing San Jose de Bue­nav­ista, Antique, along with a sub­se­quent 4.0-mag­ni­tude tremor near Si­bunag, Guimaras and a 4.8-mag­ni­tude earth­quake north­west of Guim­bal, Iloilo.

The ear­lier tremors were felt as far away as Ba­colod City and Cebu City./WDJ
