2.4-magnitude earthquake shakes Negros Oriental

Third tremor to strike the province in two days

-

A 2.4-magnitude tremor struck west of Valencia, Negros Oriental early yesterday morning, with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology clocking in the quake around 3:45 a.m.

According to a subsequent bulletin release by the agency, there was no damage reported as a result of the incident, nor were there any anticipated aftershocks.

Earthquakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli intensity scale, where very few even feel the tremor.

Early Thursday morning, the waters off Negros Oriental were subject to two early morning earthquakes with a 2.5-magnitude tremor striking near Basay around 12:18 a.m., followed by a 2.1-magnitude quake near Siaton around 1:38 a.m.

Much like yesterday’s seismic activity, neither earlier incident caused any reported damage nor were there any anticipate aftershocks.
