Ne­gros Ori­en­tal struck by two Sun­day earth­quakes

Ne­gros Ori­en­tal ex­pe­ri­enced two Sun­day night earth­quakes with a 2.5.mag­ni­tude tremor strik­ing west of Va­len­cia at 8:20 p.m. and a 2.1-mag­ni­tude quake oc­cur­ring just east of Mabi­nay around 9:54 p.m.

Ac­cord­ing to sub­se­quent Philip­pine In­sti­tute of Vol­canol­ogy and Seis­mol­ogy bul­letins, there were

no re­ported dam­ages as a re­sult of ei­ther in­ci­dent, nor were there any an­tic­i­pated after­shocks. Earth­quakes rang­ing be­tween 1.0 and 3.0 in mag­ni­tude are of­ten clas­si­fied as a Level 1 on the Mer­calli in­ten­sity scale, where very few even feel the tremor.

The day be­fore the two quakes struck the province, seis­mic ac­tiv­ity mea­sur­ing 2.2 in mag­ni­tude was recorded in Gui­hul­ngan City.
