Kagawad replaces slain Brgy. 16 captain

Barangay 16 Kagawad Erwin Arela recently replaced slain Barangay Captain Nelson Ligaya, Jr., who was recently shot dead by four riding-intandem suspects.

Bacolod City Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag said Arela visited their office last Monday, where he was advised to take charge as the new barangay captain.

She also said it is up to Arela as to when he will be sworn into office.

The DILG official added, the Barangay 16 government should also pass a resolution recommending the candidate coming seventh should assume the post of barangay kagawad.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, meanwhile, said he hoped Arela would wait for Ligaya’s wake to end before officially taking the post; adding, Arela is open to joining his political coalition Grupo Progreso.
