Ceres-Negros FC hosts Yangon United next month
Ceres-Negros FC kicks off their 2019 AFC Champions League qualifying playoff campaign next month when they host Yangon United FC of Myanmar on February 5 at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
The two clubs met last year in the 2018 AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal semifinals, where the Bacolod Citybased club won on aggregate.
If successful, the Negrense club still has to pass two rounds of playoffs before making the group stage, with Chiangrai United FC of Thailand and Sanfrecce Hiroshima of Japan further down the bracket.
Last year, Ceres FC was one round away from making the 2018 AFC Champions League group stage after defeating Shan United FC of Myanmar and A-League club Brisbane Roar, but they eventually lost to Tianjin Quanjian FC of China.
The winner of the playoff round will be drawn into Group F, alongside Guangzhou Evergrande of the Chinese Super League, Daegu FC of K League 1, and current A-League champions Melbourne Victory FC.
Meanwhile, if unsuccessful in their attempt at qualifying for the AFC Champions League group stage, Ceres is already in Group G of the AFC Cup, which they qualified for after winning the 2018 Philippines Football League. They are drawn alongside Shan United FC of the Myanmar National League, Becamex Bình D ng FC of Vietnam’s V.League 1, and Persija Jakarta of Indonesia’s Liga 1.
