Cadiz girl found dead in sugar plantation
A 14-year-old girl was found dead in the middle of a sugarcane plantation in Hacienda San Jose, located in Cadiz City’s Barangay Mabini, Saturday morning.
Authorities identified the victim as
Romelyn Depatillo, a Grade 9 student and resident of the said place.
Based on Cadiz City police investigation, the victim went out of her mother’s house around 10:00 a.m. and was supposed to go to the house of his father located at Purok Balod also in the said barangay.
Police investigation showed that the girl was followed by an undetermined number of male individuals and once in the sugarcane field was dragged by the suspects.
The suspects are believed to have attempted to rape her but due to the victim’s resistance, they were forced to stab her multiple times until dead.
Several residents living near the crime scene claimed to have heard the victim shouting in the field asking for help.
When the residents went to the area where they heard the shouting, they found the victim already dead, police said.
Police recovered a face mask and a pair of slippers in the crime scene.
As of press time, Cadiz City police are still investigating the incident, adding they already have two persons of interest in the case.
