OWWA OKs OFW trip halt to Bacolod

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has granted the request of the Bacolod City government to have a one week moratorium for receiving overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are residents of the city.

Councilor Renecito Novero, chairman of the Quarantine Center Action Team (QCAT), said that the moratorium will take effect today.

The request of the city for a moratorium has already been granted after OWWA-6 director Rizza Moldes informed him on Saturday, Novero said.

The councilor added that there is a need for a moratorium citing that there would be a possibility that the hotels in the city will become full if there will be an ongoing arrival of OFWs.

There are currently 21 hotels and inns in the city accommodating OFWs for their 14-day quarantine.

“The moratorium granted by the OWWA has also an impact in terms of the expenses of the government for they can save for a week of food expenses,” Novero said.
