Negrense standout Dyna Nieves has agreed to pursue her collegiate career with the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles after strutting her wares with the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R). The Bago City-native told Panay News over the weekend that she chose to play for the Lady Eagles amid receiving numerous offers from other UAAP-based schools. “I was still Grade 9 or 10 when Ateneo first approached me but I was not ready to commit with them yet,” said Nieves, who placed runner up twice while representing Region 6 in Palarong Pambansa. “I was supposed to commit to another school last January because akala ko hindi na sila interested sa akin but then they invited me to go to Manila, see the campus, and play with them. Dun na po kami nag-decide to commit to Ateneo,” she added. Nieves, who at 5-foot-11 was playing center for the UNO-R, said that she was ready to adjust if ever the Lady Eagles will let her play the small forward or power forward position. “I am really looking forward to growing and improving with the team. We have big plans that we hope to accomplish little by little and I hope to be part of the process,” Nieves said. “My height is 5-foot-11 and I am playing as center here in UNO-R po. I am not sure if I will be converted to a small forward or a power forward in Manila but I am ready to adjust,” she added. The Lady Eagles placed sixth during the UAAP Season 82 women’s basketball competition with 5-9 win-loss record./
