Integrating zumba a day can help boost students’ confidence

- By Ma. Cristina Ballados, Teacher l, Bacolod City National High school

Zumba is a hit. Wherever you are, from TV, dance studios, internet, and shuffles, zumba craze is overwhelming. But where did zumba start? Zumba was founded in 1998 by Pérez in Cali, Colombia. Pérez, an aerobics instructor, forgot to bring his regular music to his aerobics class. He happened to have cassette tapes of dance music—salsa and merengue—and danced to them instead, which Pérez later taught as “Rumbacize.” A mere mistake is now a health miracle.

Aside from dancing and going zumba, here are other values we can learn from it.

7 Physical health and benefits of Zumba

● It’s fun. The more you enjoy your exercise routine, the more likely you are to stick with it.

● Great for weight loss

● Tones your entire body

● Boosts your heart health

● Helps you de-stress

● Improves coordination.

● Makes you happy

We can see that Zumba is not just wiggling and swaying of our body but it helps regulate our body to reach our potential health status. It also boosts our confidence as we do de-stressing and putting on positive vibes into our body. As we look good, we feel good to

ourselves too. Confidence is escalating and our perspective improves as well. As a teacher I find it effective to introduce zumba after our flag ceremony or before opening our P.E. class. They will become at ease, exercise those frozen stiff bodies and loosen the negativities in the mind as we see the smiles and enjoyment of others.

Let us not wait to age up and loose the chance to enjoy life. Let’s go ZUMBA!
