‘No more COVID-19 beds in Iloilo City’

The city of Iloilo has reached a 100% intensive care utilization rate (ICUR), according to the Octa Research group, in a report published yesterday.

This was also confirmed by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas in a statement released yesterday.

Thus the city mayor appealed anew to the Ilonggos to stay at home as there are no more vacant COVID beds in the hospitals in the city.

“The hospitals have been overwhelmed by the number of positive patients who are senior and those with comorbidities. Even the emergency rooms are already full of COVID positive patients. Please stay at home. We will get through this alive together,” said Treñas.

According to Octa, Iloilo City, Koronadal City, South Cotabato, and Bacoor ICURs reached full capacity at 100 percent from June 13 to 19 which means that all ICU beds in these areas are all filled.

Meanwhile, there are also seven other areas which posted at least 85 percent ICUR or already at “critical risk.” These are Davao City (95%), General Santos (86%), Tagum (85%), San Pablo, Laguna (86%), Tuguegarao (98%), Cotabato City (94%), and Naga City (85%).

Iloilo City, for more than three weeks already, is under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Since late last month, the city is recording at least 100 COVID-19 cases per day.

As of yesterday, Iloilo City has 2,561 active cases of COVID-19.

The overwhelming number of cases and patients seeking medical care at the hospitals in the city burdened the health facilities which prompted Treñas and various sectors to appeal to the national government through the Inter-Agency Task Force and National Task Force on COVID-19 for additional vaccines, more medical staff and equipment as well as medicines to arrest the continued increase in COVID cases.
