Bacolod resorts to be closed during feast of San Juan

- / DGB, WDJ

The beach resorts in Bacolod City will close down during the feast of St. John the Baptist on Thursday, June 24.

The decision came following a meeting between resort owners and cafe shop operators in barangays Punta Taytay and Pahanocoy over the weekend attended by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and representatives from the city’s Emergency Operations Center.

Leonardia has also issued an executive order yesterday morning following the meeting ordering the suspension of the public celebration of the traditional celebrations, picnics, revelries, and other similar activities.

Based on the executive order, water splashing and any similar acts are also prohibited and anyone caught doing such acts will

be prosecuted for unjust vexation.

The mayor hopes that the restriction will prevent the further spread of coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19, cases in the city.

He had also made an appeal for the public to cooperate and avoid going to the coastline and resorts.

Earlier, the provincial government of Negros Occidental had released a similar order closing down resorts in the province from June 23 to 25.

Meanwhile, Bacolod City recorded 65 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total active cases in the city to 2,270, based on the Department of Health 6’s Regional Case Bulletin.
