The San Carlos City Police Station in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental together with Maritime Patrol Group and Philippine Coast Guard in coordination with the City Environment Management Office (CEMO)-Coastal Resource Management Division conducted an underwater cleanup drive early Saturday morning, June 19, in Dap Dap Wharf Sipaway Island in Barangay San Juan.

A clean-up drive through scubadiving of PNP called SCUBASURERO was conducted in said area due to the number of visitors that have possibly thrown their trashes within the vicinity which need to be taken out to sustain the marine biodiversity.

Said activity participated in by 31 individuals was aimed at collecting different wastes materials such as plastic containers, bottles, plastic cups, fishing nets, used face mask and shields, clothing, tin cans, cement sacks, sanitary napkins, and other hazardous wastes from which six sacks were collected for proper waste disposal.

The Bureau of Fire Protection and the Philippine Army also participated in the activity together with the San Carlos Freedivers and Qptimum Dive Team.

Police Chief Insp. Arthur D. Baybayan said the clean-up drive is not limited to land that’s why they extended it to the seas as part of their environmental program “maka-kalikasan.”

He added that they will continue to do such activity as part of their contribution to the environment.

The activity is in line with the Environmental Month Celebration of the city facilitated by the CEMO.
