Jeff Chan hopes for a new deal with Ginebra
Bacolodnon gunner Jeffrei Chan hopes that he will land a new contract with the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings following their title run in the 20212022 PBA Governors’ Cup.
The former Gilas Pilipinas guard is now a free agent after his previous contract with the Gin Kings has already expired at the close of the 2021-2022 PBA season.
“As long as you’re healthy and you prepare yourself, I think you’re okay,” the Bacolod City-native Chan said. “If given the chance,
I think I can help pa rin, I think I can play pa rin.”
“Kung ang management mabigyan ako ng chance ulit, hindi ko naman sila papahiyain. I can still play, and I still have the game,” added the former Far Eastern University Tamaraws star.
Chan resurfaced in the rotation of Kings head coach Tim Cone for the PBA Governors’ Cup playoff round following the injury of their key players.
In the six-game finale against the Meralco Bolts, the Bacolodnon three-point shooter averaged 5.8 points per game, the fifth-best scorer for the Gin Kings.
During the course of the playoffs, the 39-yearold Chan exploded for 20 points in the Kings’ closeout win over NLEX Road Warriors in the bestof-five semifinals round.
“He was like the forgotten man, holding on, just looking to play here and there. And he just steps up when we need him. He stepped up and he just played huge,” said Cone.
Chan, who won four of his six PBA championships with the Kings, said he was grateful to Cone for giving him the opportunity to play in the playoffs to bolster his opportunity for a contract renewal.
“Nabigyan ako ng chance. Going to the playoffs na lang nakalaro. But thankfully, I’m healthy this time and kundisyon naman ako,” he said.
“Maliit lang naman ang tulong ko e, basta makatulong lang ako sa mga wins namin, I’m happy na. Malaking bagay ‘yung playing time. It’s a big help,” Chan said./ASC,
