21 NegOcc LGUs request early delivery of election supplies
Twenty one of the 31 local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental have requested early delivery of supplies that would be used for the national and local elections on Monday, May 9.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Negros Occidental Elections Supervisor
Atty. Roberto Salazar said the areas that requested early delivery of official ballots and other electionrelated supplies are Binalbagan, Calatrava, Cadiz City, Cauayan, Don Salvador Benedicto, E.B. Magalona, Escalante City, Himamaylan City, Hinigaran, Hinoba-an, Ilog, Isabela, Kabankalan
City, Moises Padilla, Murcia, Sagay City, San Carlos City, Sipalay City, Victorias City, and Toboso.
The Comelec office in Bacolod City has also made a request for early delivery.
According to Salazar, the rules specify that the distribution of official ballots, forms and other election paraphernalia to the voting centers is on election day.
However, the Comelec has issued a resolution allowing for the early delivery of supplies and other forms.
Salazar said that the towns with most number of barangays with early deliveries of election supplies and forms are in Cauayan with 25 barangays and in Moises Padilla and Hinoba-an with at least one barangay each.
Among the reasons for the request for early delivery include the volume of supplies that would be needed, which Salazar said is a practical reason as voting precincts will be opened by 6:00 a.m.
The provincial elections supervisor said they have ordered the election officers to coordinate with their city and municipal treasurers to conduct ballot verification to ensure the ballots that were delivered are for specific precincts.
Ballots and vote counting machines, meanwhile, are precinctspecific and that the ballots assigned to a precinct cannot be used in other precincts.
