The Department of Education (DepEd) in Western Visayas (WV) has enlisted 360,571 learners in the region during its early registration for the school year 2022-2023.

DepEd Western Visayas information officer Hernani Escullar Jr., in an interview yesterday, said the number of learners was reflected in their database as of 4:30 p.m. of May 1 totaling 360,571 but yet to be subjected to validation for the possibility of wrong tagging or encoding.

The early registrants consist of 68,473 for Kindergarten; 104,400, Grade 1; 93,026, Grade 7; and 94,672 for Grade 11.

“This will serve as basis for planning and preparations in terms of classrooms, studentteacher ratio, number of modules and learning materials and other resources for the next school year,” Escullar said.

The number is lower compared with this school year’s 387,156 early registrants.

“As of now we have no information if there is still an ongoing encoding. But as per advise from our Planning and Research Division, schools should continue to accept the late registration forms because it could be that there was a delay or parents found it difficult to travel due to possible restrictions,” he added.

The early registration ended on April 30, 2022.

Learners from other grade levels who were not included in the early registration were automatically registered in the next grade level.

Based on DepEd’s proposal, the school year 2022-2023 is set to start on August 22.

Meanwhile, the DepEd regional office will be activating its regional election task force effective from 1:00 p.m. on May 8 until 5:00 p.m. on May 10 for the May 9 elections.

Escullar said DepEd Regional Director Dr. Ramir Uytico met with various school division offices and their legal unit last week and discussed the preparations.

The task force is composed of the steering group, operations and legal

support group, secretariat, call-center monitoring, data-base unit, logistics, and coordination mobile unit.

“They will document teachers and schoolrelated

issues and concerns, before, during and after elections,” he added.

Escullar said that they can access the task force through hotlines 09706457696

and 0995-4146573.

Any concerns will be coordinated with appropriate agencies for faster response, he added.
