- By Mark Keevin A. Montalvo

Professional studies are heaped opportunities for professionals who wanted to advance themselves into better careers. These paths are quite optional, but if one wants to do more than plain work, an advance in education is a well suited walkway. There are several universities and colleges that offer twoyear courses to satisfy professionals who wanted to earn Complete Academic Requirements, and another year to complete the course, gaining Master’s Degree.

Graduating Bachelors Degree alone, though, will land you to jobs you so desire but an advance in career is a strong factor these modern days. Every working communities are now patterned to adapt to the international standards and to work with such facilities, an advanced career is an advanced factor. Presently, teachers in public schools are positively encouraged to pursue Master’s studies to ensure that they continuously improve their ways to educate their learners.

With the goal of the Department of Education (DepEd) to continuously produce life-long learners, it is also an aim for the department to school teachers into advanced degrees. Presently, there’s an ongoing agreement and contract between the province of Negros Occidental through the University of St. La Salle, Bacolod City paving way for Project Free - Paglaum Scholarship Program for all qualified DepEd personnel in the province, where public school teachers can avail of free post-graduate education and finish their course for free. Though most enroll into other institutions at the cost of their own expense.

But the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way post-graduate studies were once was. Learning modalities are done online, and like students who used to go to school to learn face-to-face, public school teachers was of no excuse.

Even though most of the subjects taught are theoretical and conceptual, it’s still a different thing to learn inside the four dimensional corners of the classroom. With less debates, brainstorming, group works – Google Meets are quite a trend, with just portable computers on, or even mobile phones –learning could positively happen.

It’s no difficult for teachers to learn in these times of pandemic, teachers are known to be flexible and versatile – they are skilled shapeshifters. May it be face-to-face or virtual interaction, effective learning can be realized as long as eagerness to unlearn and relearn is at the heart of a dedicated teacher. (Contributed article)
