- By Mark Keevin A. Montalvo

This year’s election was a blast, bringing both tension and thrill as to what would shape the next six years of the Philippines’ world stance. Filipinos from every walks of life wander about who to elect, and who to trust their futures to – where every family raises their heads up to whom their hearts trust, whom they see as their ‘present savior.’ Saying, this heap of election tides, are not just electing for the sense of electing, but of great hoping.

Moreover, aside from the majority of voices whom have spoken for a new year of hope – public school teachers are also in high anticipation that this new leadership will bring about change and financial ease to their everyday struggles. Though public school teachers are still savoring the tranches under the administration of outgoing President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the intensive cries for ease and increase are still gonging.

Before the presumptive Presidentelect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. hails throne, there were talks that the also, presumptive Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio will take over the brief of the Department of Education. In the Presumptive Vice President’s acceptance speech, she said “Yesterday, the presumptive President and I once again talked about how I could help the country. It was decided that I would work on producing skilled learners with the mindset to realize their full potential as individuals. Our country needs a future generation of patriotic Filipinos that advocates peace end discipline in their respective communities.”

Living up to its mission, the Department of Education dreams of Filipinos who passionately love their country and whose values and competencies enable them to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to building the nation. And with passion for education and nation building in mind, the Presumptive Vice President-elect, holds dear to the hope that her brief stay in the department will not only bring positive reforms, but making more life-long learners into the face of the new world order

With DepEd as a learner-centered public institution, outgoing Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones assured her support of the seamless transition of duties, to ensure that the department as a whole will continuously improve itself to better serve its stakeholders – the Filipino people. And with hopes that the program of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for the DepEd will continue to flourish, the workers in the field – teachers and the non-teaching staff – are also in great anticipation that things will be a lot more better and education for all will be more accessible.
