KMU calls biz sector's threats of closure as nothing more than a bluff
Militant group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) reacted over the threats made by the business sector which stemmed from the proposed wage hike released by the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB).
KMU secretary-general Noli Rosales said the threats made by the business sector such as closing down their businesses if the new wage order is implemented are just nothing more than a bluff.
According to Rosales, despite calls for wages to be hiked, they have been receiving complaints from their fellow members informing them that their employers were threatening to stop their businesses.
He pointed out it is time to implement a wage hike as the price of primary commodities and services have already risen over the past few months.
He also advised operators of small businesses who are unable to meet the proposed wage increase to call for subsidies from the government.
Earlier, Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) Chief Executive Officer Frank Carbon voiced out his disapproval for the proposed wage hike and called the RTWPB to recall it from the National Wages and Productivity Commission, and organize another round of talks.
Carbon said if their demands are not met, they will seek a temporary restraining order before the court.
Based on the proposed wage increase, the daily minimum pay for non-agricultural, industrial, and commercial workers was proposed at P450 or a P55 hike from the current P395 wage.
Meanwhile, the proposed wage hike for establishments which only have a minimum of 10 employees is at P420 or P110 higher from the current P310 salary.
