Packaging consultancy benefits MSMEs
Some 36 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Iloilo province were recently awarded with complete label designs through a government-assisted Packaging and Labeling Consultancy Program.
This joint endeavor of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Iloilo and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Iloilo aimed to assist micro-entrepreneurs in terms of product development, packaging and labeling to increase their sales and meet the market demands.
A report from DTI said these beneficiaries have undergone three phases of consultancy services from DOST’s in-house consultants, as well as productivity trainings and seminars from June to October of this year.
DOST-Iloilo provincial director Engineer Sheila Oberio conveyed the eagerness to continue serving these entrepreneurs through various programs and services.
“Packaging and labels are silent salesmen of a product and more sales may mean higher profitability for them. These entrepreneurs learn to choose the appropriate packaging material suitable to their level of operation and intended market,” Oberio said.
She also noted that the six years of partnership with DTI paved the way to reaching more microenterprises that are ready and responsive to produce competitive products.
Meanwhile, DTI Iloilo Provincial Director Ma.
Dinda Tamayo challenged the MSMEs as “they are set to conquer the business world.”
For his part, Samey Sumagaysay, one of the program beneficiaries, expressed his gratitude for the initiative dedicated to the entrepreneurs, particularly on the value-added features of their locally-made products.
