Lacson thankful for PDP-Laban members’ support in his reelection bid

- By Jen Baylon

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is thankful to the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) members in the province who expressed support for his reelection bid in the 2025 midterm polls.

“I’ve already said that I’m very thankful for their support. In fact, I went around the third district and confirmed that they are supporting the election for my final term as governor of this province,” Lacson said.

“I don’t know what’s going on with the PDP-Laban here sa Negros Occidental, pero I know for the fact though that the incumbent PDP members are supporting me,” he added.

Lacson said he received information that officials from the third district would resign from PDP-Laban.

Meanwhile, Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer said he will respect the decision of elected officials if they resign from PDP.

Ferrer said there was no order from President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. for them to resign from the political party.

Earlier this month, Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said he expects a mass resignation of PDP-Laban members in the province following the endorsement of former Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick “Wantan” Palanca as their candidate for governor.

Atty. Jesus Villanueva Hinlo, PDP deputy secretary general for Visayas, said they are considering fielding Palanca against Lacson in the midterm polls.

Several PDP members in Victorias resigned after receiving information that Palanca was being considered for endorsement as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, saying “that decision was made without consultation.”/JB,
