Chicago Chic

-

Our love story began in the midst of Chicago’s winter while we were on our residency training there. Although we were in Chicago, our wedding plans were set to be held in Manila. We envisioned a classic Filipino elegance with touches of our fondest memories of Chicago incorporated in each element of the theme.

Ikey wished to standout in his wearing the intricate barong along with his groomsmen while every other gentlemen guest will be asked to wear their suits and ties. And so it was as he wished. Slate blue and silver was the choice for our colour motif to represent the perfect winter feel and the icy skyline of Chicago. I had to fly in from Georgia for the prenup shoots. We had them in Michigan Avenue and Lincoln Park which are significant spots of cherished memories together. These photos were aptly used in our Save-the-date card and website designs. I did our invitations which was personalized by the logo design we have created ourselves.

The morning of the wedding was equally memorable when Ikey brought in great surprises. Starting off with a large cup of latte with “Mrs. Campos” written on it. Followed by a large bouquet of flowers and a special package of diamond earrings. I, in turn, presented him with a watch and a personal love note which brought us overwhelmingly speechless and in tears.

Sanctuario de San Antonio’s beautiful and elegant Spanish-era vibe was the best pick for the overall feel we wished to achieve for the wedding ceremony. Just within the Bonifacio Global Center complex is the Shangrila at the Fort. Its grand pillarless ballroom and its proximity to the church were the prime reaons for our choice of our reception venue.

Ikey’s love for food and great cooking was foremost in the selection of the menu for the cocktail reception. With the valuable help and inputs of our chef friend, Chef Ariel Manuel (a multi-awarded chef of Lolo Dad’s fame), they came up with a superb canapes spread for the reception. Favorites include jamon iberico and chocolate-covered foie gras.

The 10-course dinner menu was an excellent line up prepared by Shang’s very own. We actually relied on the suggestions and taste buds of our parents who truly did a great job in our behalf as we are unable to do so while in Chicago.

Ikey’s photography skills played well in the development of city postcards for our guestbook design. My love for books was very evident in the design of our giveaways – a leather bookmark with our monograms on one side and an embossed stamp of the Chicago skyline on the other.

No less than the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra for the promised night of musical nostalgia brought symphonic music to all our hearts. More heartfelt serenades were rendered by Ikey’s brother, Nicanor. A well choreographed dance by another brother, Tommy, got us to join him on the floor as well. Touching speeches from family and a full roasting of the groom by the Best Man, Atty. Norby Geraldez, filled the air with tears and laughter all through the celebration.

With all the support and sincere love from all ends, a wedding planned from oceans away can only be as memorable and uniquely special like ours.
