Whitespace Wedding
Janus and I met three years ago. We share the same passion for food, travel and entertainment. Janus is into food business as a chef and I used to work for an events management company. You can say that we got a good background of the creative work one puts into coordinating programs and events. Until we realized that it was not so when we were planning our own wedding event.
We started building up on the wedding theme right after we got engaged. We attended a lot of weddings and took every opportunity to make a checklist of things we’d like to consider incorporating into our own theme. We came to agree to one definite point – that ours would not be as stiff and structured as most wedding arrangements. We intend ours to be loose and fun where family and friends can enjoy themselves. That was our ultimate objective!
Suppliers were booked a year ahead but everything was actually confirmed just five months before our wedding date. With the limited time on hand, Janus managed to chill it out and not be pressured by all the nitty gritty of the preparation. I was glad to go along with his pace and enjoy the task on hand. We really had a great time playing on to the wedding playlist and dancing while finalizing the names for the invitations.
We were inspired to have a magical Secret Garden for our wedding theme because of its flexibility and natural ambiance. Unlike anything else we attended, this set up assured us of open spaces which won’t be intimidating and suffocating as the usual grand elements put into a typical reception. Our stylist, Dave
Sandoval, got it so well done as he opted for the round capiz balls and lush ceiling treatment with gold-painted leaves on dried flowers and cotton pods. Nothing of the ballroom chandeliers and tiffany chairs on the setup. Muted colour palette was aptly chosen as our motif for a softer and calmer effect to match the overall design.
The Whitespace Manila was a perfect canvas for the reception as it provided flexibility and ample space while keeping the coziness of the venue.
With the help of Cibo Di Marghi’s signature catering service, everyone was taken to a culinary adventure with their mouth-watering dishes.
My dad sung out his message to Janus: “Take good care of my baby
Now don’t you ever make her cry
Just let your love surround her
Paint a rainbow all around her
Don’t let her see a cloudy sky
Once upon a time that little girl was mine
If I’d been true, I know she’d never be with you
So, take good care of my baby
Be just as kind as you can be
And if you should discover
That you don’t really love her
Just send my baby back home to me” That part truly got me to tears. To break the overwhelming emotions, I took the spot with a DJ performance and had everyone swinging it out on the floor.
Single-use cameras were given away as guests captured the moment. We thought it best to be our unique giveaway so guests will not get wrapped up in the technicals of photography and just click and take snaps of the time.
Janus and I enjoyed seeing everyone enjoying the day. Simple, open and free.
