Trinkets in our Lives
I met Ian in college when I was 19. It was a funny first date we had back then when he invited me to a Lego Movie and I, not getting the slightest hint that it was supposed to be a date, invited two of my sisters to tag along. Silly me, but it was a story he’d like to share again and again every time anyone asked how we started. And that was how it all began with me and Ian.
People in school saw us grow up together. Friends and faculty members of the college knew how we were to each other. Ian is known to everyone for his diligence and high performance as a student. I, on the other hand, struggled to stay focused on schoolwork. Despite the difference, we complimented each other in so many ways. I started enjoying my classes as Ian inspired me every day to be better. He became more visible in various social circles. To those who saw us, we were acknowledged and accepted as a couple. We cheered each other in our successes and visibly were present to care for each other at times when things were not going so well.
We went on with the loving. Dates were how we always wanted them to be. Sometimes quiet and chill. Other times adventurous and exploratory. Each morning started with inspiring greetings and nights ended with exchanges of sweet emojis. Our love was expressed in so many ways and the little trinkets we gave each time I kept safely and saved each one for a special day.
Our wedding day is the culmination of all the days we chose to keep choosing each other. We invited friends and special people whom we knew were with us from the start. To treat them to a quick round of reminiscing, we included a display panel at the reception entrance where my collection of trinkets and other souvenirs were featured for their pleasure. Anniversary scrapbooks, Valentine’s
Day notes and many more items collected from friends and Ian through the years. It brought us all back in time and in a journey towards this end…our wedding.
The song we chose for our same-day edit was carefully picked out for the meaningful lyrics and because we personally know
the artists who performed it. Araw-araw by Ben&ben is a song that conveys how love is shared to another…unceasingly every moment of the day…every day.
At the end of the night, guests made plans to extend the celebration to a weekend in Tagaytay. Good conversations and more laughs continued on through the wee hours and new friendships began. New trinkets for my collection to be shared in future anniversary celebrations as Mr. and Mrs. Ilagan.
